What We Do

Creating Your Kilt

  • 1. Let's talk

Every kilt starts with a conversation.

Get in touch and tell us a little about what you have in mind, and we’ll arrange a no-obligation consultation with our Kiltmaker, Fiona.

In your consultation we’ll talk tartans, accessories, timescales, and more.

Please note: for wedding outfits, we recommend getting in touch six to twelve months before your big day. This gives us plenty of time to explore your options, source your tartan and plan your outfit without rushing the process.

  • 2. Securing your spot

Following your consultation a deposit secures your place in our production queue and expected delivery date.

Once your deposit has cleared, your tartan will be ordered from a leading British Textile Mill in preparation for production.

  • 3. Exploring your design

This is where your kilt really becomes yours.

Fiona will guide you through finalising a range of design decisions, from pleating style to lining, finishing details and any personal touches you’d like to include.

We’ll also take your measurements to ensure your finished kilt fits you perfectly and discuss any other items you might need.

We work with a range of quality suppliers to help you create a complete Highland-wear outfit from head to toe — underwear excluded!

  • 4. The sewing begins!

Once your place in the production schedule comes around, work on your kilt can begin!

Hand-sewn with care every Laird Jarvie Kilt receives the time, attention and meticulous finishing it deserves.

  • 5. Your final fitting

When your kilt is complete, we’ll arrange your final fitting to make sure everything is just as it should be before your kilt comes home with you.

We’ll also talk you through how to wear and care for your kilt, so you can enjoy it for years to come.

Timescales

Every bespoke kilt is different, and our timescales can vary depending on the availability of your chosen tartan, the complexity of your design and our current production queue.

As a guide, please allow approximately 12 weeks from confirmation of your order to your final fitting.

For wedding commissions, we recommend getting in touch six to twelve months ahead of your wedding date. This gives us the flexibility to accommodate your preferred tartan, any additional outfit requirements and the time needed to create your kilt with care.

We’ll always discuss the expected timescale with you before your order is confirmed and keep you informed throughout the process.

Good things take time. Your kilt is no exception.
